Frequently asked questions
What's in the free tier vs Pro?
Free: Open any markdown deck, present fullscreen with full keyboard control (prev/next, blackout, whiteboard, themes, transitions, vim-style navigation), audience view, default theme.
Pro (one-time purchase): In-app editing and save, PDF export, web/video/HTML slide types, JSON/EDN file formats, presenter window (clock, pace timer, speaker notes, prev/next thumbnails, QR-code remote), custom themes (light, solarized, navy), auto-advance and target-duration timer.
How do I create a deck?
Pro is required for editing in-app. Free users can open and present
markdown files that already exist on disk. Decks are markdown files
with Marp-style front-matter and <!-- speaker notes -->. With Pro,
open the app, paste your markdown, save.
Can I use my existing slides?
If you have markdown-based decks (Marp, Hugo Reveal, etc.) the front matter and slide separators should import directly. PowerPoint, Keynote, and Google Slides require manual conversion.
How does the QR remote work?
The app runs a small local-network HTTP server. The QR code in the presenter window (Pro) encodes the LAN URL. Scan it with any phone on the same Wi-Fi; the phone shows prev/next buttons that drive the slideshow. No app install needed on the phone.
Does it work offline?
Yes, fully. The app contacts no external services for its own functionality. Slides that embed YouTube/Vimeo videos or web URLs need internet for those embeds to play, but the rest of the deck works offline. The Pro purchase flow requires a one-time connection to Apple's servers via StoreKit.
Where are my decks stored?
In macOS user defaults (SharedPreferences) and any file you save
via File → Save (Pro). Use File → Export to save a portable JSON or
EDN copy (Pro).
Can I export to PDF?
Yes, with SlideDash Pro. File → Export → PDF. Each slide becomes one PDF page at the fullscreen aspect ratio.
How do I restore my Pro purchase on a new Mac?
Open SlideDash on the new Mac while signed in to the same Apple ID that made the original purchase. Trigger any Pro feature (e.g., File → Save) and the paywall sheet appears with a "Restore Purchases" link. Tap it.
